Havana (VNA) – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam and President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez shared the view on contributions of the legislatures to relations between the two Parties, States, and people of Vietnam and Cuba at their meeting in Havana on September 26 afternoon (local time).

Esteban Lazo affirmed that Lam’s ongoing state visit holds great significance to the bilateral ties, contributing to strengthening the traditional solidarity, special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba in the new period.

Lam used this occasion to thank Esteban Lazo who led a high-ranking delegation of Cuba to attend the funeral of late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The top leader stressed that his visit demonstrates the special, unwavering solidarity of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people towards their Cuban counterparts, as well as the importance Vietnam attaches to consolidating, deepening, and promoting the bilateral relationship.

Esteban Lazo congratulated Vietnam on the great socio-economic achievements it has recorded and expressed his belief that the country, under the leadership of the CPV, will reap more fruits in national development and socialism building.

Lam also said he believed that the Cuban people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and with significant contributions of the NA, will soon overcome difficulties and complete development targets, advancing Cuba’s role and position in the region and the world.

They reviewed the relations between the two Parties, States, and people of Vietnam and Cuba since the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic ties 64 years ago, saying they have stood side by side during the most challenging times, and worked together to consolidate the exemplary and special relationship founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.

Lam said Vietnam always keeps in mind the solidarity and wholehearted support of the Cuban Party, State and people during its past struggle for national defence and reunification, as well as the present cause of renewal, construction, and defence.

He also reiterated Vietnam’s consistent stance of maintaining solidarity with Cuba and strongly supporting its revolution, and calling for an end to the embargo against the Caribbean nation.

Esteban Lazo thanked the Vietnamese Party, State, and people for their solidarity, fraternal sentiments, and sincere support to the Cuban revolution in national defence, construction, and development.

Cuba always attaches importance to and wants to deepen the traditional solidarity, special friendship and comprehensive cooperation, he emphasised.

The host and guest spoke highly of the fine development of the bilateral legislative ties, and agreed on a number of major orientations to promote the cooperation in the time ahead.

Accordingly, the two legislatures will continue to effectively implement their cooperation agreements; work harder to remove obstacles to the Vietnam-Cuba relationship and advance it to a new development period in a more efficient and sustainable manner; carry forward their roles in law making and supervision to accelerate the implementation of agreements between the two Parties and countries; and promote the role of NA deputies in enhancing the special relationship and mutual understanding, in expanding people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between localities, and in raising public awareness of the Vietnam-Cuba ties.

Committees and agencies of the two NAs will also step up the exchange of experiences in law making and perfecting socio-economic management policies, and boosting their cooperation at multilateral mechanisms and forums.

The Vietnamese leader suggested Esteban Lazo, together with the Cuban NA, further support measures to raise the efficiency of the comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties and countries./.
