Hanoi, (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

-A welcome ceremony at the highest protocol for heads of state was held at the Sükhbaatar Square, Ulaanbaatar, on September 30 afternoon for General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of Vietnam To Lam who is on a state visit to Mongolia.

Following the welcome ceremony, the two leaders had a retreat and will hold talks and witness the signing of some cooperation documents.Read full story

-Visiting General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam and Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between the two countries' ministries, sectors and agencies following their talks in Ulaanbaatar on the afternoon of September 30.

The documents include a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on legal cooperation between Vietnam’s Ministry of Justice and Mongolia’s Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs; an MoU on cooperation between the two Ministries of Transport; and an MoU on tourism cooperation between Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and Mongolia’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth.Read full story

-Party General Secretary and President To Lam’s state visit to Mongolia carries significant meaning in the context when Vietnam and Mongolia are celebrating the 70th founding anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations (1954-2024).

Vietnam and Mongolia have shared a long-standing traditional friendship. Mongolia was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam, the first Southeast Asian country with which Mongolia established diplomatic relations.Read full story

-The State visit to Mongolia by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam is expected to open up new avenues for businesses in both countries to expand their partnerships and explore investment opportunities.

Experts highlighted that Mongolia places importance on Vietnam's rising role and status. In discussions with Vietnamese leaders, the Mongolian side consistently affirmed Vietnam is a key partner in its foreign policy within Southeast Asia and a vital gateway to the 700-million-strong ASEAN market.Read full story

-World Peace Council (WPC) Executive Secretary Iraklis Tsavdaridis has commended Vietnam’s consistent policy on human rights protection and promotion.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC), Tsavdaridis said Vietnam has always paid attention to human rights and the protection of those rights, firstly the right to live in peace, welfare rights, and the right to the continuous improvement of living standards, which can be seen clearly in Vietnam’s success in eliminating extreme poverty in the past.Read full story

-Party General Secretary and State President To Lam’s state visit to Ireland is expected to lift the multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the European country to a new height, ensuring that it develops dynamically, effectively, and sustainably, bringing practical benefits to the two peoples, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK and Ireland Do Minh Hung told the Vietnam News Agency on the threshold of the visit.

This will be the first visit to Ireland by a Vietnamese head of state since the two countries established their diplomatic relations in 1996, noted the diplomat, emphasising that it is of great significance, helping promote political trust and mutual understanding, improving efficiency, deepening and opening a new stage of development for the all-round cooperation between the two countries.Read full story

-Vice Chairman of the Presidential Office Pham Thanh Ha announced a decision of the President on amnesty in 2024 at a press conference in Hanoi on September 30.

According to Decision No. 957/QD-CTN signed by President To Lam on September 29, 3,763 prisoners who are currently serving sentences and two others who had their sentences temporarily suspended, will be pardoned.Read full story
