APEC ministerial meeting opens in Japan

Cooperation (APEC) forum opened on Nov.10 in Yokohama city, Japan.
Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem and Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang attended the event.
During the two-day event under the chairmanship of Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Akihiro Ohata, ministers from 21 member economies will review the efforts of liberalising trade, facilitating growth and regional economic integration.
The ministers will discuss measures to promote the Doha negotiations and are likely to extend until 2013 previous commitments to not raising trade barriers. They will consider an action plan aimed at reducing 5 percent of goods transportation cost and time by 2015 to create favourable conditions for international goods circulation.
The ministers will also discuss measures to establish an expanded free trade area and put forth the first economic growth strategy of the region.
The results of the meeting will be submitted to the APEC Summit, scheduled to take place on Nov.13-14.
According to the Japanese government’s statistics, APEC members at present account for 52.7 percent of GDP of the world and 44.4 percent of global trade value./.
