Mexico City (VNA) – Diplomatic missions of ASEAN member countries in Mexico held an ASEAN Family Day on March 6 to cement the friendship and connection among them.

Opening the event, Thai Ambassador to Mexico Surasak Chuasukonthip, rotating chair of the ASEAN Committee in Mexico, underlined the significance of friendship activities among ASEAN members, particularly after the formal establishment of the ASEAN Community on December 31, 2015.

He urged ASEAN diplomatic missions in Mexico to continue assisting each other to promote the ASEAN spirit in all fields.

The diplomats and their families were joined by students from ASEAN countries in a range of sport and folk games. The Indonesian Embassy coordinated an aerobic performance, while Vietnamese dishes of fried spring roll and stir-fried vermicelli and shrimp were well received by participants.

The ASEAN Family Day was the second joint activity hosted by the embassies in Mexico of ASEAN member countries this year. Earlier, they organized a trip to promote ASEAN tourism and business in Jalisco and Colima states in western Mexico.

Vietnam will take over the chair of ASEAN Committee in Mexico for the second half of the year. The committee comprises Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

The ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) has 10 members: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.-VNA
