The exercise, the first of its kind in the world, identified potential effects of serious diseases on essential services for humans such as energy, transport and finance as well as major challenges faced by the region and the world at large.
ASEAN nations, international health and humanitarian organisations collected a basket of experiences on the pandemic preparedness and response as well as discussed necessary mechanisms to improve the effectiveness of those efforts.
According to the UN, the exercise improved the cooperation and coordination between ASEAN countries, regional and international organisations with the UN and other international agencies in order to help ASEAN states complete their strategies and plans, and strengthen intersectoral and trans-border cooperation in preventing trans-border diseases.
The five-day exercise was jointly conduced by the UN, ASEAN, the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organisation (WHO)./.
