The Australian Government will provide the funding worth over 2 billion VND to support Vietnamese rural migrant workers in urban areas.

The fund will also help a group of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Ho Chi Minh City provide legal services for the migrant workers as well as information about their rights.

The project will enhance the NGOs’ capacity to lobby the Vietnamese Government to adapt its policies to better protect migrant workers’ rights and access to basic public services.

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Hugh Borrowman said the rural migrant labour force working in urban areas is vulnerable. He stressed the project will provide important information and services to protect these workers rights.

Around 1,000 migrant workers will directly benefit from the project, which í partnered with the Asia Foundation. The project will also enable four NGOs and two universities to continue providing legal advice to migrant workers.-VNA
