Bac Lieu (VNA) – The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour has donated 1.2 billion VND (46,900 USD) to build 20 homes for poor and near-poor households in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu as part of the Prime Minister’s campaign to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated houses.
Bac Lieu has set ambitious housing goals, planning to construct and renovate 2,883 houses for revolution contributors, 1,760 for poor and near-poor households, and 176 for ethnic minority families. The province estimates nearly 263 billion VND will be needed to achieve these targets.
In 2024 alone, 779 homes have already been completed to help families celebrate the Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival in improved conditions, with full completion targeted for October 2025.
Chairman of the Bac Lieu provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu stressed the importance of providing houses and livelihoods for the poor, particularly disadvantaged fishermen. He highlighted the initiative’s role in easing hardships and empowering struggling families to build a better future, reflecting Vietnam’s deep-rooted tradition of solidarity and compassion.
Looking ahead, Bac Lieu hopes to receive more support for poverty reduction, improved educational facilities in remote areas, and enhanced healthcare infrastructure in revolutionary base regions, he noted./.
