A Vietnam-Laos joint council convened in Hanoi on Dec. 25 to appraise a collection on the history of special relations between the two nations during the 1930-2007 period.
Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Truong Tan Sang, and Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee Bounhang Volachit co-chaired the council.
The draft collection, which comprises four parts divided in 10 chapters, was assessed as “Excellent”. It features the entire process of the establishment and development of Vietnam-Laos special relations, as well as fundamental issues in each field of the bilateral relations.
The research project affirms the Vietnam-Laos special relationship is the most valuable asset and a rule to gain victory of the two nations throughout their revolutionary process.
Regarding the prospects for the bilateral relations, the compilers recommended Vietnam and Laos uphold and develop their ties to a new level amid the rapid and deeper globalisation and international economic integration.
The two countries should carry out already signed cooperation programmes, build a new cooperation strategy for the years to come and step up education about the Vietnam-Laos time-honoured relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, the compilers noted.
Bounhang Volachit, who doubles as Vice State President of Laos, said the compilation of the book is of extreme significance, being an outstanding political event in the cooperative relations between the two Parties, Governments and nations in recent years.
This is a practical activity to celebrate both XIth National Congress of the CPV and IXth National Congress of the LPRP, the Lao leader said.
For his part, Sang stressed the book is a major project, which profoundly and comprehensively highlights the faithful relationship between the two Parties, States and peoples during their struggles against foreign aggressors and for national construction and defence over the past nearly 80 years.
To Huy Rua, Politburo member, Secretary and Head of the Commission for Information and Education of the CPV Central Committee, and Samane Vinhaket, Politburo member and Head of the Steering Committee for Ideology, Theory and Culture of the LPRP Central Committee, who are deputy heads of the council, attended the event.
Members of the steering committee for the project and representatives from relevant ministries, agencies, research institutes, universities and the compilation board were also present at the meeting./.
