Jakarta (VNA) – Six men died in East Cengkareng, West Jakarta of Indonesia  after drinking bootleg liquor, East Cengkareng subdistrict head Yuli Ardiansyah said on June 26.

According to him, all victims attended the same gathering where they drank the liquor.

The death toll may increase as the gathering was also attended by many others, he stated.

"In a separate incident about two days ago, another person also died, so there are now seven victims," Yuli said.

The West Jakarta Police are investigating the case.

Statistics show that Indonesia has recorded over 500 deaths due to bootleg liquor. In April 2018 alone, over 80 people were died of alcohol poisoning.

National police recently conducted a crackdown to fight against criminals involved in transporting and selling spiked liquor.-VNA
