Cambodia bans sale, distribution of three types of infant milk powder over toxin risk

Cambodian authorities have requested distributors, retailers and small traders to cooperate in recalling all of the aforementioned products, and urged consumers to immediately stop purchasing and using them.

Hanoi (VNA) – Cambodia has prohibited the sale and distribution of three types of Babybio Optima 1 infant milk powder over concerns that they may be contaminated with the toxin cereulide.

The Directorate-General of Consumer Protection, Competition and Fraud Repression (CCF) said in a statement on January 27 that the three banned French products are Babybio Optima 1 800g infant formula with Lot No. 894408, Babybio Optima 1 800g infant formula with Lot No. 900035, and Babybio Optima 1 400g infant formula with Lot No. 900932.

According to the CCF, cereulide is a bacterial toxin that can cause nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, and is particularly dangerous for infants.

Cambodian authorities have requested distributors, retailers and small traders to cooperate in recalling all of the aforementioned products, and urged consumers to immediately stop purchasing and using them.

The decision was made after Comptoir Perfect Pharmed Co., Ltd, the exclusive distributor of Babybio products in Cambodia, warned that there may be the toxin cereulide in three types of Babybio Optima 1 infant milk powder currently circulating in the Cambodian market./.
