Phnom Penh (VNA) - A ceremony was held in Phnom Penh on December 2 to celebrate the 37 th founding anniversary of the Cambodian Front for National Salvation, the predecessor of the today Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodian Motherland (SFDCM).

Addressing the event, National Assembly President and Chairman of the National Council of the SFDCM Heng Samrin recalled the establishment of the Cambodian Front for National Salvation, which is considered the vanguard mass organisation of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP).

The initially Cambodian Front for National Salvation was founded on December 2, 1978 in Snoul district, Kratie province, in the context that the country was put under the Pol Pot genocidal regime.

Under the leadership of the front, the Cambodian people, with support from the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, put an end to the Pol Pot regime on January 7, 1979.

The victory charted a new era for the Cambodian people and a new page in the country’s history.

The celebration was a reminder of the older generation’s sacrifice to the country’s peace and development for younger Cambodians.-VNA
