Cambodia ranked 91st out of 121 countries in the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index 2009.

This is higher than last year’s position when Cambodia was classed as 113th.

The WEF said that Cambodia has become more attractive to domestic and foreign businesses as the country’s trade tariffs remained low and in this regard, Cambodia ranked 27th among 121 nations.

However, Cambodia was classed at 109th for the country’s outdated infrastructure which is seen as the biggest obstacle to trade activities in the country, 115th for difficulties arising from undeveloped information technology and 118 for shortages in transparency in custom clearance.

Secretary of state for the Ministry of Commerce Mao Thora said the new position reflects a growing appreciation from the international community and that this shows the Cambodian government has created a better business environment for domestic and foreign investors.

He added that the government has made some adjustments in its trade legislation and made more efforts to improve work habits in order to attract more foreign investors./.
