Cambodia to host World Heritage Committee meeting

Cambodia is the fourth Asian country, which has been elected ashost of the WHC session, the Cambodian News Agency (AKP) quoted thepress release as saying.

The event will be held in Phnom Penhat the Peace Palace while the closing ceremony will take place inAngkor , the press release said.

Around 1,300 delegatesfrom more than 120 member states to the 1972 UNESCO ConventionConcerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritagewill attend this universal event.

The World Heritage Listincludes 962 properties forming part of the cultural and naturalheritage which the WHC considers as having outstanding universal value.

According to the press release, during the upcoming meeting,the Committee will identify, on the basis of nomination dossierssubmitted by State Parties, cultural and natural properties ofOutstanding Universal Value which are to be listed (those listedproperties will get necessary protection under the Convention).

Itwill also review the state of conservation of properties inscribed onthe World Heritage List, in collaboration with concerned State Parties,and decide which properties need to be placed in the World Heritage Listin Danger or to be removed from the World Heritage List, and examineInternational Assistance requests managed by the World Heritage Fund.-VNA
