Phnom Penh (VNA) - The great victory on April 30, 1975 is a testament to the historical value of the friendship among Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia; and is not only a victory for Vietnam but also a shared triumph for the entire Indochinese region, according to a Cambodian general.

In an interview with Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Phnom Penh on the occasion of Vietnam’s 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, General Sao Sokha, Commander of the Gendarmerie and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), stressed that in the 20th century, Vietnam and Cambodia in particular, as well as the three countries of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia in general, were allied in fighting foreign invaders.

According to the general, since they were former colonies of French colonialism, none of them could achieve independence on their own. It was the solidarity in the combat alliance among the three nations that enabled them to overcome colonial rule and gain freedom and independence.

Lessons from the past show that it was thanks to the friendship and solidarity among the three nations, as well as with peace-loving forces around the world, that they overcame the most difficult periods.

General Sao Sokha emphasised that during the war, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia needed mutual support to gain independence, and in peacetime, they must continue to work together to maintain peace and achieve sustainable development

Taking the economic sector as an example, the officer noted that Vietnam is using many Cambodian goods and vice versa, demonstrating that economic cooperation between the two countries is highly practical and effective. In the context of globalisation, no nation can exist in isolation, he stressed, asserting that multilateralism is a correct path to address the challenges of the modern world.

The general called for not forgetting the historical lesson of sincere friendship among nations, considering it a key to solving current and future challenges./.
