Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on April 19 attended an inaugural ceremony for a sugar mill with a daily capacity of 1,000 tonnes in Preah Vihear province.

The investor, Chinese agro firm Rui Feng International, poured over 360 million USD into the first phase of the 1 billion USD plant, which has initially created jobs for 7,000 locals.

Once the whole project is completed, more than 14,000 people are expected to be employed.

The mill, equipped with Asia’s biggest automatic sugar production line, can also generate power and organic fertilizer from bagasse.

Speaking at the event, PM Hun Sen said that the project showed investors’ confidence in the Cambodian Government. He pledged that Cambodian agencies will make every effort to facilitate the investment.-VNA
