Cambodia’s rice exports drop in first nine months of 2018

Cambodia exported 389,264 tonnes of milled rice in the first nine months of 2018, down 8.4 percent from the same period last year, according to the Secretariat of One Window Service for Rice Export Formality.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia exported 389,264 tonnes of milled rice in the first nine months of 2018, down 8.4 percent from the same period last year, according to the Secretariat of One Window Service for Rice Export Formality.

During the January – September of 2017, Cambodia shipped abroad 421,966 tonnes of milled rice.

China remained Cambodia’s top rice export market, accounting for 24.8 percent of the Southeast Asian nation’s total rice exports. It was followed by France, Poland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

In the first nine months of this year, Cambodia shipped 96,714 tonnes of milled rice to China, a fall of 22 percent compared with the same period last year.

According to the Cambodian Agriculture Ministry, Cambodia produced 10.5 million tonnes of paddy rice in 2017, up 5.7 percent from the previous year.-VNA
