CanTho (VNS/VNA) — The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho will issue more preferentialpolicies for investors to set up private nurseries in the city’s industrialparks and processing export zones, according to the municipal People’sCommittee.
Speaking at a recentconference on the national project on nurseries at industrial parks andprocessing export zones, Vo Thi Hong Anh, the committee’s vice chairwoman andhead of the Steering Board of the project in Can Tho, said that female workerswith children ageing 6 months and above have to send their children tonurseries and kindergartens when they resume working after six months ofmaternity leave.
The nurseries and kindergartensmust have professionally trained staff and facilities that ensuresafety for children, Anh said.
Agencies in the city shouldoffer more solutions to attract private investment in safenurseries and kindergartens to meet female workers’ demands, she added.
Noting that the city plans to establish SingaporeIndustrial Park in Thot Not District, she said the district should set uphealth facilities and nurseries or kindergartens to create conditions forworkers’ children to be taken care of. This will also attract workers to the IP.
She instructed the cityDepartment of Education and Training to provide more preferential policiesto attract private investment to build nurseries in IPs andprocessing export zones.
The city could giveinvestors priority in tariff exemptions andreductions, assistance for loans, and land lease, she said.
Can Tho has four industrialparks and processing export zones with 5,176 workers with childrenunder 36 months old.
The total number ofkindergartens in the industrial parks and processing export zones is 10. Sixout of the 10 meet national standards. There are 29 nurseries.
The total number of childrentaken care of at the kindergartens and nurseries is 3,929.
Localauthorities and relevant agencies check the nurseries frequently.Inspections have shown that their classrooms and toilets for children areclean. Investors have spent 519 million VND (22,285 USD) on upgradingtheir nurseries’ facilities.
TheDepartment of Education and Training has suggested that the city People’sCouncil provide assistance of more than 1.2 billion VND tobuy teaching aids and toys for children.
