The committee madethe statement at a year-end review in Hanoi on January 13, during whichit has decided to push up social and charity activities for 2010.
The CSVC called on followers to promote a new cultural lifestyle intheir residential quarters and join with the nation in dischargingnational socio-economic targets in line with a motto “living the gospelamidst the nation”.
Catholics should actively take part in all patriotic movements launchedby the Vietnam Fatherland Front, focusing on the Day for the Poor, andtake care of disabled, abandoned and street children, it urged.
The committee made public a target to set up its own fund for disabled children with assistance from kind-hearted donors.
CSVC President Father Nguyen Cong Danh said Catholics nationwide havepaid practical contributions to various aspects of social life such aseconomic development, poverty reduction and administrativestrengthening.
He highlighted Catholics’ charity activities last year, raising over200 billion VND (roughly 10.8 million USD) for the Fund for the Poor./.
