Chinese President Hu Jintao on September 27 held talks with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, who is on a working visit to China , to discuss ways to enhance bilateral ties and coordination on international affairs.

President Hu said the visit by President Medvedev is a major event in China-Russia ties of this year. He expressed his belief that the visit would deepen bilateral strategic exchanges and practical cooperation in all areas, and will play an important role in pushing forward the robust growth of bilateral ties.

For his part, Russian president Medvedev noted that he had met with President Hu five times this year, saying the frequent contacts between the two state leaders were conducive to the interests of the two peoples and the state-to-state ties.

Signed cooperative documents between China and Russia have demonstrated the close cooperation and coordination between the two nations, he said.

After the talks, the two leaders signed joint statement to comprehensively deepen the two countries’ strategic cooperative partnership. They also issued a joint statement on the 65 th anniversary of the end of the World War II.

A series of agreements on anti-terrorism, separatism and extremism along with others on commercial cooperation in mining, nuclear energy and banking were also inked on this occasion.

The two leaders will attend a completion ceremony of the China-Russia oil pipeline.

President Medvedev is scheduled to meet with China 's top legislator Wu Bangguo, Premier Wen Jiabao and Vice President Xi Jinping the same day./.
