Climate change causes severe damage to Thailand: report
Floods caused by climate change have claimed the lives of more than 2,000 people and led to damage of 12.59 trillion baht (363 billion USD) to Thailand over the past 30 years, according to a new report by the country’s National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC).

Bangkok (VNA) – Floods caused by climate change have claimed the livesof more than 2,000 people and led to damage of 12.59 trillion baht (363 billionUSD) to Thailand over the past 30 years, according to a new report by the country’sNational Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC).
The council’s third quarter report states that Thailand hasbeen suffering from severe social impacts due to climate change.
In the period under review, over 40,000 floods have hit theSoutheast Asian nation.
The NESDC notes scientific studies over the past 20 yearsshow that worsening floods are the result of climate change triggered by globalwarming./.
Thailand’s economy is projected to recover to its pre-pandemic level in 2022, but the pace of growth will be slower than expected in 2023 owing to global headwinds, according to the World Bank.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan recently endorsed in principle a large-scale plan to tackle flooding and drought across the country that will require a budget of 337.7 billion THB (9.7 billion USD).
