Berlin (VNA) - A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), led by Nguyen Thuy Anh, member of the CPV Central Committee, Vice Chairwoman of its Commission for Policies and Strategies, paid a working visit to Germany from November 24 to 27 and attended the sixth policy dialogue between the CPV and the Left Party (Die Linke) of Germany.

During the visit, Anh had meetings with Vice President of the German Bundestag Bodo Ramelow; co-leader of the Left Party Jan van Aken; and the German Government’s Special Envoy for the Asia-Pacific region, Joachim Bertele.

In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State in northern Germany, the delegation worked with Torsten Koplin, Parliamentary Managing Director of the Left Party parliamentary group; and Jacqueline Bernhardt, Minister of Justice, Gender Equality and Consumer Protection of the state, among others.

The CPV delegation also visited and worked with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Berlin.

On November 24, Anh and Maximilian Schirmer, Deputy Chairman of the Left Party, co-chaired the sixth policy dialogue between the two Parties.

At this dialogue and various meetings, Anh reaffirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State always prioritise the development of the Strategic Partnership with Germany, which is Vietnam’s key partner in Europe.

She also appreciated Germany's leading role in the European Union (EU) and expressed gratitude for the long-standing friendship between the two nations.

Both sides participating in the dialogue briefed each other on the situation in their respective countries, as well as the guidelines, policies, and development goals of their respective Parties and States; the issues each Party and country is facing in the context of significant and complex international and regional developments; and shared practical experience in Party building, communications and mass mobilisation, and socio-economic development at both local and central levels.

They emphasised that strongly promoting the development of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and institutional reform is the right and groundbreaking direction to ensure rapid and sustainable national development, safeguarding the interests of workers and vulnerable groups.

They also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern; and agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation and coordinate positions between the two Parties, thereby contributing to enhancing the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries and making a positive contribution to peace, stability, and sustainable development in the regions and the world.

The two sides showed their support for the settlement of disputes and conflicts by peaceful means, on the basis of respect for international law and the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.

At the discussions, leaders of Germany and the Left Party congratulated Vietnam on its development achievements and reform efforts in recent years, as well as showed their confidence that Vietnam will accomplish the major goals it has set for the new era.

The Left Party agreed that policy dialogue is an effective cooperation channel for the two Parties to gain a deeper understanding of each other’s situation and global trends, and to share views on many theoretical and practical issues of mutual concern at the national, regional, and global levels, such as decentralisation and delegation of authority, balancing local budget revenues and expenditures, reducing wealth disparities and social inequality, and protecting the environment.

Both sides agreed on the importance of further strengthening cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade and investment, education and training, science and technology, justice, gender equality, culture and people-to-people exchanges, labour and vocational training, especially at the local level. They agreed to hold the seventh policy dialogue in Vietnam in 2026./.
