COVID-19: New cases on December 28 total 14,440

Vietnam recorded 14,440 cases of COVID-19 in 61 localities during 24 hours from 4pm December 27 to 4pm December 28, including 19 imported cases, according to the Ministry of Health.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam recorded 14,440 cases of COVID-19 in 61 localities during 24hours from 4pm December 27 to 4pm December 28, including 19 imported cases, accordingto the Ministry of Health. 

Hanoi recordedthe highest number of infections with 1,920, followed by Tay Ninh with 923 and VinhLong with 911.

The national tally reached 1,680,985.

According to the Ministry of Health’s report, 7,103 patientsnationwide are in serious conditions, with 802 requiring invasiveventilation and 19 on life support (ECMO).

On the day, the country saw 214 deaths from thedisease. The death toll now hits 31,632, equal to 1.9 percent of thetotal caseload.

A total 4,668 patients were given the all-clear, taking the total number ofrecoveries to 1,264,282.  

By December 27, the country had injected over 147.27million doses of vaccines to date, with more than 66.86 million peoplenow fully inoculated, while over 3.14 million third shots, either booster shotsor the third shot of Abdala vaccine have been administered.

During the day, the country confirmed the first infection of the Omicronvariant, who is a person returning from the UK./.

Health sector targets free hospital fee for all

The total value of medical expenses not covered by the health insurance fund is estimated at around 24.8 trillion VND (942 million USD) per year. Health insurance contributions remain low, at 4.5% of the salary or reference base used for calculation.
