Phnom Penh (VNA) – The ruling CambodianPeople’s Party (CPP) has won all 58 seats in the Senate election on February25, according to official results released by the National Election Committee(NEC) on March 3.
Three other political parties, namely theFuncinpec Party (FCP), the Cambodian Youth Party (CYP), and the Khmer NationalUnited Party (KNUP) took part in the election.
The Senate has 62 seats, but the vote was heldfor 58 seats only, as two senators will be appointed by King Norodom Sihamoniand two others by the National Assembly.
Earlier, the NEC said some 11,670 out of 11,695voters or 99.79 percent went to the poll.
A total of 276 observers from 12 non-governmentalorganisations monitored the election.
At the previous election held in January 2012, the CPP won 46out of 61 seats. -VNA
