Hanoi (VNA) – Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes met with the Vietnamese media in Hanoi on October 28 to present a draft resolution Cuba will submit to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to call for an end to the US economic, commercial, and financial embargo on the Caribbean nation.

The draft, also called draft Resolution A/80/L.6, is expected to be discussed and voted on by the UNGA on October 28–29.

According to Ambassador Polanco Fuentes, this marks the 34th time Cuba has presented such a draft resolution to the UNGA to urge the US to lift its decades-long embargo.

He stressed that aside from repeatedly submitting the drafts, Cuba has always demonstrated its willingness to engage in dialogue based on equality and respect for international law and national sovereignty.

On this occasion, the ambassador expressed the Cuban Party, State, and people's deep gratitude to the Vietnamese counterparts for their consistent stance and strong support for the efforts towards the normalisation of Cuba – US relations, and for their appeal to the US for lifting the embargo measures against Cuba in conformity with the relevant UNGA resolutions, for the Cuban people's legitimate interests and for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the Americas and the world at large.

He noted that Vietnam has always stood by Cuba in difficult times, showing solidarity not only through material assistance but also through political and humanitarian support.

Recently, the Vietnam Red Cross Society, in coordination with several socio-political organisations of Vietnam, launched a fundraising campaign themed “65 Years of Vietnam – Cuba Friendship” to support the Cubans. The campaign is part of the “Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Year 2025”, which celebrates the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1960–2025)./.
