Cuban Vice President of State Council welcomed in Hanoi

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong held a meeting with Cuban Vice President of the Council of State Mercedes Lopez Acea in Hanoi on September 15, hailing her visit as a contribution to the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.

In the meeting, Phong thanked the leaders and people of Cuba fortheir support to Vietnam in the past and at the present, whileasking the two countries to continue strengthening their political,economic, and educational ties.

She said thecollaboration between the two parliaments helped developVietnamese-Cuban relations and she affirmed that the Vietnameselaw-making body has always stood by the Cuban Party, State andGovernment.

For her part, Mercedes Lopez Acea saidher visit aimed to exchange experience and consolidate cooperation andsolidarity between the two nations.

She consideredVietnam’s socio-economic achievements as a valuable example for Cubaand urged both sides to expand their affiliation for the benefit ofthe two peoples.

On the same day, Chairman of theHanoi municipal People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao hosted a receptionfor the Cuban official, who is also the Secretary of the HavanaCommittee of the Cuban Communist Party.

Briefing hisguest on the capital’s achievements and challenges, such as trafficcongestion, environmental pollution and population growth, Thaoexpressed his hope that Havana would support Hanoi in tacklingthese difficulties, thus fostering relations between the two capitalsand the two countries.

Mercedes Lopez Acea said theexchange of delegations between Hanoi and Havana played a major rolein intensifying cooperation between the two countries, adding thatVietnam’s experience with the renewal process would help Havanaupdate economic growth models.

Later the day, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisation Vu Xuan Hong received the Cuban official.-VNA
