A delegation from the National Assembly and international organisationspaid a field trip to the northern mountainous province of Dien Biento learn about the locality’s HIV/AIDS prevention and control.
Workingwith the local leaders, representatives from the Inter-ParliamentaryUnion (IPU) advisory group on HIV/AIDS prevention and maternal, newbornand child health, the World Health Organisation and the Joint UNProgramme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Vietnam spoke highly of the province’sefforts in the work and studied the reasons for a high rate of HIV/AIDSinfections among ethnic minorities and treatment by Methadone.
Thedelegation visited some HIV/AIDS treatment establishments and met withpatients with iron will to triumph over the disease and better theirlives.
According to Pham Xuan Koi, Vice Chairman of provincialPeople’s Committee, Dien Bien has recorded 7,500 HIV-infected peoplesince the first case is detected in 1998.
As many as 291 newHIV-infected cases were reported in the first ten months of 2014, areduction of 155 cases from the same period last year.
By 2015,the province strives to constrain the HIV infection rate among high-riskgroups, especially those with drug injection, via providing more andbetter counseling and testing services while expanding the scale ofMethadone treatment programme.-VNA
