Domestic coal demand to rise in 4th quarter

Domestic demand for coal is expected to grow rapidly during the last quarter of 2014, the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) forecast during a conference on October 7 in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The conference heard that in thefirst three quarters, Vinacomin’s members maintained produced 25.6million tonnes of coal end products, fulfilling 75 percent of the yearlytarget.

During the same period, the group sold a total of 26.2 million tonnes of coal, of which 4.8 million tonnes were exported.

Since the domestic market is seeing signs of recovery, especiallyduring the dry season when there will be a higher demand for coal topower thermoelectricity plants, new cement projects and other coalconsuming facilities.

This year, Vinacomin plans to sell 35.5 million tonnes of coal, including 6.5 million tonnes for exports.

To achieve its goal, the group has implemented numerous policies andaddressed all arising challenges promptly, while accelerating productionto meet the market demand during the dry season.-VNA

Japanese retailers step up business activities in Vietnam

Aeon – Japan's largest retail group – plans to increase the number of hypermarkets, also known as "Super Supermarket (SSM)" and general merchandise stores (GMS) in Vietnam from 12 as of February 2025 to about 100 stores by 2030. Another large Japanese group, Sumitomo, also aims o open supermarkets in Vietnam, with about 10 stores per year.

Vietnamese banks promote development of global strong brands

Vietnamese banks have also proactively improved their image and position in the international arena. According to Brand Finance's 2025 rankings, 13 Vietnamese banks are now listed in the Top 500 banks with the highest brand value globally.

In response to these trends, economic experts have recommended Hanoi to implement a range of measures to manage inflation in the coming months. They emphasised the need to strengthen price monitoring of essential goods, particularly food, fuel, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare services.
