Agriculture, environment ministry sets forth key tasks for sci-tech, innovation promotion

The first task is to raise awareness, renew thinking, and have strong political determination throughout the agricultural and environmental sectors on science – technology development, innovation, and digital transformation.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has put forward seven main tasks to create breakthroughs in science – technology development, innovation, and national digital transformation, as an effort to implement the Politburo’s Resolution No.57-NQ/TW, dated December 22, 2024.

According to Nguyen Van Long, Director of the ministry’s Science and Technology Department, the first task is to raise awareness, renew thinking, and have strong political determination throughout the agricultural and environmental sectors on science – technology development, innovation, and digital transformation.

The second is to perfect institutions, and turn them into a competitive edge in these works. Accordingly, the ministry will focus on reviewing, amending and supplementing 17 laws on agriculture and environment to ensure consistency, promptly remove bottlenecks, and simplify administrative procedures to serve state management requirements and proactive international integration.

Third, the ministry will increase investment in and improve infrastructure for science, technology, innovation and digital transformation.

Fourth, it will develop and make use of high-quality human resources, especially leading Vietnamese and foreign scientists and experts, to meet the requirements.

The fifth is to promote digital transformation, science-technology application, and innovation in activities of the ministry’s agencies and units.

Sixth, attention will be paid to strongly promoting science, technology, innovation and digital transformation activities in the enterprises operating in agriculture and environment, such as reviewing and proposing preferential policies and incentives for businesses, and giving priority to small- and medium-sized ones, cooperatives, and business households to support them to invest in digital transformation, scientific research and application, and technological innovation to improve production and business efficiency as well as corporate governance.

Seventh, efforts will be made to strengthen international cooperation in science – technology development, innovation, and digital transformation in multilateral and bilateral forms with countries, territories, international organisations, multinational corporations, research institutes, and leading universities in these areas around the world.

Long also shared that on May 10, the ministry, in collaboration with the northern province of Bac Ninh, will organise a conference to launch the plan to implement the Politburo's resolution in the agricultural and environmental sectors.

On the sidelines of the event, there will be booths displaying and introducing some achievements in the sectors' research, transfer and application of science and technology./.
