Dong Nai hands over land for Long Thanh airport to construction ministry

Hanoi (VNA) –
The southern province ofDong Nai handed over land for the first phase of the Long Thanh internationalairport project to the Ministry of Transport at a ceremony held on October20.

Dang Minh Duc, Director of Dong Nai’s Department ofNatural Resources and Environment, said the land clearance for the priorityarea covering 1,810ha has been basically completed.

The provincial People’s Committee is conducting proceduresto hand over nearly 2,590ha of land to the Ministry of Transport for jointmanagement, according to the official.

In his remarks, Deputy Minister of Transport Le AnhTuan lauded Dong Nai’s efforts in the land clearance work, as well as coordinationof ministries and agencies, and the support of local residents in this regard.

According to Cao Tien Dung, Chairman of the provincial People’sCommittee, Dong Nai has completed the assessment of the remaining 3,190hafor the second and third phases of the project, and expects to approve the landclearance plan this year.

Efforts have been stepped up in infrastructurebuilding at the resettlement area so that locals can receive their land thismonth, as well as job generation for local residents.

Long ThanhInternational Airport, a key national project, was approved by the NationalAssembly in 2015.

In the first phase, a runway and passenger terminal eachalong with other supporting works will be built to handle 25 million passengersand 1.2 million tonnes of cargo each year. It is expected to be completed by2025.

Once fully operational, the airport is expected to reduce theload on HCM City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Some 4,800 households and 26 organisations areexpected to be relocated to make way for it.

In the second phase, a runway and passenger terminal eachwill be built to serve around 50 million passengers and 1.5 million tonnes ofcargo a year.

After the third phase, the airport will be able to serve 100million passengers and five million tonnes of cargo./.
