Quang Tri (VNA) – The central province of Quang Tri is accelerating efforts to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated houses for poor households and families of revolutionary contributors, aiming to complete the initiative by June 30, two months ahead of schedule.
Speaking at the 21st conference of the provincial Party Committee on April 3, Secretary of the committee Nguyen Long Hai stressed that the province’s financial resources are now fully in place and urged local authorities to swiftly implement the plan.
According to Ha Sy Dong, Acting Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, the province currently has 7,369 households needing housing support, including 4,214 requiring new homes and 3,155 in need of repairs, with an estimated total budget of over 361 billion VND (13.98 million USD).
In the first quarter, financial aid was allocated to 2,851 households, with 887 homes completed and 1,870 under construction.
Reviewing the first-quarter performance, Hai acknowledged that despite various challenges, Quang Tri had achieved encouraging results. The administrative system remained stable following recent structural reforms, while agriculture, forestry, and fisheries showed positive growth. Industrial output increased, and trade and services saw significant improvements. However, he noted that the progress of infrastructure, cultural, and key public investment projects has been slow.
To achieve 8% economic growth this year, the local leader called for streamlining investment procedures, accelerating land clearance, enhancing workforce quality, and fast-tracking major transport projects, including the Van Ninh – Cam Lo expressway, Quang Tri airport, and the coastal road connecting the East-West economic corridor./.
