Dong Thap strengthens trade, investment partnership with Lao localities

The Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap held a conference in its Cao Lanh city on December 4 to seek ways to boost trade and investment partnership with Champasak, Salavan provinces and Vientiane city of Laos.

Dong Thap (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap held a conference in its CaoLanh city on December 4 to seek ways to boost trade and investment partnershipwith Champasak, Salavan provinces and Vientiane city of Laos.

Addressing the event,part of the ongoing Dong Thap trade and investment fair 2018, Vice Chairman ofthe provincial People’s Committee Chau Hong Phuc highlighted the soundsolidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos, as well as between DongThap and the three Lao localities in particular.

Along with various exchangeactivities, Champasak has presented many scholarships to Dong Thap officials tostudy the Lao language, while Dong Thap has received 27 Lao students to studyat the province’s Medical College and Community College, he noted.

However, Phuc heldthat trade and investment activities between the two sides have yet to beeffective, as only few businesses of Dong Thap are investing in and conductingtrade activities with Salavan, Champasak and Vientiane while Dong Thap has yetto host any Lao firm.

At the conference, leadersof Dong Thap, Salavan, Champasak and Vientiane briefed each other of thepotential and strengths of their localities, along with exchanging in-depthinformation on incentives and investment policies as well as goods transport, logistics,and import-export activities at border gates.

They sought ways tofoster cooperation in several areas, especially aquatic product processing,pharmaceuticals and food, and agreed to continue strengthening trade andinvestment partnership as well as experience sharing in various fields.

On the occasion, thedelegations from the three Lao localities made a field trip to a number ofaquatic and agricultural farms of Dong Thap.-VNA
