An embankment project along part of the Hoai River, stretching from the iconic Japanese covered bridge to the Cam Nam Bridge, is classified as a priority in the national programme for climate change response. This project is expected to protect the UNESCO-recognised ancient town against erosion.

Laying in the downstream of Thu Bon river, Hoi An ancient town in Quang Nam province faces weather threats every year.

The concrete levee is 780 metres long. As it was stilted deep into Hoai river, helping the city stand still against flood while ensuring the landscape is left unaffected.

The embankment is intended to mitigate the impact of climate change and increase the local people’s capacity to adapt to and live with flooding and sea level rises./.-VNA
