Get-together marks joint Vietnam-Cambodia victory over genocidal regime

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City held a get-together on January 7 to mark 43 years since the victory in the Southwestern border defence war and the joint victory on January 7, 1979 of Vietnam and Cambodia over the genocidal regime.

HCM City (VNA) - The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations(VUFO) and the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City helda get-together on January 7 to mark 43 years since the victory in theSouthwestern border defence war and the joint victory on January 7, 1979 ofVietnam and Cambodia over the genocidal regime.

Standing Vice President of the Vietnam-Cambodia FriendshipAssociation in Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Van Trieu said that January 7, 1979 hasgone down in history as a milestone of pure and faithful internationalsolidarity and the special friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia, helping bringCambodia out of genocide and enter a new era of independence, freedom andrevival.

Looking back on history, it can be affirmed that thesolidarity of the two countries' people is the source of strength and an important factorhelping them overcome all obstacles and make the great victory of each country,he said.

He expressed his wish that Cambodia will gain greaterachievements in the nation building cause, and the traditional friendship and comprehensivecooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia in general and between Ho Chi MinhCity and Phnom Penh in particular will grow further.
