Hanoi (VNA) - The Government Inspectorate held a meeting in Hanoi on March 31 to release the findings of its investigation into the construction of Bach Mai Hospital and Viet Duc Friendship Hospital’s second facilities.

The investigation uncovered widespread wastefulness, manifesting in multiple forms and exacting a heavy financial toll. Inefficient use of public assets and mismanagement considerably escalated costs, unnecessarily straining state resources.
In his speech, Deputy Inspector General Nguyen Van Cuong said the urgent and unscheduled investigation is carried out under the directive of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, Wastefulness and Negativity, led directly by Party General Secretary To Lam. The swift launch of the investigation on January 8, 2025 covered an extensive 10-year period (2014–2024), navigating through Vietnam's evolving legal landscape.

The inspection report meticulously details the legal and scientific bases for the findings, comparing practical cases to gauge the extent of wastefulness. It stresses the critical need to further prioritise combating waste, advocating for stronger preventive measures across the political system and society to tackle the issue early and from afar./.
