Ben Tre (VNA) - Chairwoman of the People’s Council of Ben Tre province Ho Thi Hoang Yen on April 1 urged localities to ramp up efforts to complete the eradication of temporary and substandard houses in the Mekong Delta province before June 30, 2025.
Yen, who is head of the provincial steering committee for the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses, requested the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee to mobilise resources and support families in housing construction and repairs.
For pending cases, local authorities need to proactively manage them within their jurisdiction to ensure progress and transparency, she said.
Local authorities at all levels must take responsibility and actively mobilise resources instead of relying solely on higher-level funding, she stressed, requiring agencies and localities to submit daily progress reports on this work to the standing body for update and monitoring.
The total number of families in need of housing support in Ben Tre in 2025 stands at 2,101, with an estimated budget of 106.89 billion VND (4.1 million USD). As of March 28, construction started on 413 houses, of which 17 had been completed./.
