Mexico City (VNA) - Presidentof the Republic of Guatemala Jimmy Morales Cabrera lauded the rapid growth andincreasing role of Vietnam in Asia-Pacific and the world when hostingVietnamese Ambassador to Mexico and Guatemala Nguyen Hoai Duong on September 4.

Ambassador Duong, who came to present hiscredentials, conveyed President Tran Dai Quang’s greetings and invitation tovisit Vietnam to his host.

He added that Morales’ trip to Vietnam isexpected to enhance multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries.

The Guatemalan President expressed his thanksand tasked Minister of Foreign Affairs Sandra Erica Jovel, who also attendedthe meeting, with arranging his visit to Vietnam.

Morales said he believes in developingVietnam – Guatemala relations, particularly in trade and investment.

Earlier, on September 3, the Vietnamesediplomat handed over a copy of his credentials to Guatemalan Deputy Minister ofForeign Affairs Alicia Virginia Castillo.

On the occasion, both sides franklydiscussed measures to boost bilateral cooperation in economy-trade and culturalexchange.

They agreed that the establishment of apolitical consultation mechanism between Vietnamese and Guatemalan foreignministries as well as the mutual support of the two countries at internationalorganisations and multilateral forums, particularly in Asia-Pacific, are alsonecessary.

They considered these practical activities tomark 25 years of Vietnam – Guatemala relations (1993 - 2018).-VNA

To further strengthen Vietnam-Belgium relations, especially parliamentary cooperation, both sides agreed to enhance delegation exchanges at all levels, particularly between parliamentary committees and friendship groups. They also pledged to share legislative and supervisory experience, coordinate positions in international organisations, support each other’s candidacies for UN bodies, and effectively implement the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
