The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has signed a decision to implement a programme to reduce traffic congestion and accidents by 2020.

The programme will include 97 projects that also cover the building of new roads and a public transportation system.

The projects will have a total cost of over 4.1 billion USD, mostly sourced from the State, the city, and official development assistance.

With the programme, the city expects to put into use 33.5 kilometers of new roads and 14 new bridges by the yearend.

The programme has set to reduce the number of traffic fatalities and injuries by 5 percent by 2020.

From 2018 to 2020, the city will focus on developing its public transportation system, with the aim of meeting 15 percent of transport needs by 2020.-VNA
