Hoang Thuy Linh wins "big fours" at 2020 Devotion Music Awards

Pop singer Hoang Thuy Linh has become the first Vietnamese artist to ever win the "big four" categories at the 2020 Cong Hien (Devotion) Music Awards, the organizers announced on March 25.

Hanoi (VNA) – Pop singer Hoang Thuy Linh has become the first Vietnameseartist to ever win the "big four" categories at the 2020 Cong Hien(Devotion) Music Awards, the organizers announced on March 25.

Linh won the Best Song of the Year and the Best Music Video of the Yearfor "De Mi Noi Cho Ma Nghe" (Let Me Tell) and the Best Album of the Year forher album "Hoang." She was also named the Best Singer of the Year.

"De Mi Noi Cho Ma Nghe" was a hit after it debuted last year. The popsong was composed by DTAP Team about a young girl who loves freedom anddoesn't want to get married at young age.

The lyrics are vivid and funny, inspiring listeners to sing along. Themusic video for the song was launched last June, using Vietnamese classicalliterature works such as Lao Hac (Old Man Hac), Tat Den (Turning Off Light) andVo Chong A Phu (A Phu Couple).

Launched last October, "Hoang" is a unifiedconcept album about a young woman who experiences many ups and downs inher life. The album received positive reviews in national musicpublications, on Facebook and on blogs.

The album combines electropop and electronic dance music, according to Billboard Vietnam. The product highlights folklore materialssuch as fairy tales, proverbs, literary works and religion. It is still modernand joyful.

All songs on the album rank in the top ten on both iTunes and SpotifyVietnam.

In the Show of the Year category, the vote has ended in a tie for thefirst time ever between solo concerts "Truyen Ngan" (Short Story) by singer HaAnh Tuan and "Tro Ve" (The Return) by singer Tan Nhan. Both received an equal numberof votes at 28, making the organizers to exercise their casting vote for thefirst time in the award’s 15-year history.

Tan Nhan finally won the category for the solo concert during which sheperformed Vietnamese folk songs of "xam" (blind buskers’ songs), "chau van"(spiritual music) and "quan ho" (love duets) with a contemporary music orchestra.

DTAP Team, comprising Thinh Kainz, Kata Tran and Tung Cedrus, was namedthe Best Producer of the Year while the Best New Artist of the Year and the Composerof the Year went to singer Amee and composer Phan Manh Quynh, respectively.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the award ceremony was canceled; insteadHoang Thuy Linh, Phan Manh Quynh and other winners will gather in a fan meetingevent live on Facebook fanpage of The Thao & Van Hoa (Sport & Culturenewspaper) at 8:00pm on March 25.

The annual Devotion Music Awards was launched by Vietnam News Agency’sThe Thao & Van Hoa newspaper in 2004 to promote Vietnamese music and honourartists with significant contributions to the industry.

This year, the voting was held online for the first time because ofconcerns over the wide-spreading COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 95 ballots havebeen sent via email to reporters in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City who voted innine categories./.
