Da Nang (VNA) - The Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture on November 19 opened a special exhibition titled “National Treasures – Heritage in the Heart of Da Nang”, while unveiling its newly upgraded exhibition spaces.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, held to mark the 20th anniversary of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23), Director of the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture Le Thi Thu Trang noted that following recent administrative boundary adjustments, Da Nang now encompasses a diverse cultural landscape, shaped by civilisations such as Dong Son, Sa Huynh, Champa and Dai Viet — evidenced through scientific and archaeological research as well as the city’s rich collection of artefacts and national treasures.

This exhibition presents 16 national treasures — including 14 original objects and two replicas — out of the city’s total of 19. The remaining three treasures, which are tied to specific heritage sites or require special preservation conditions, are introduced through detailed information panels and images in the museum’s courtyard.

Director of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Truong Thi Hong Hanh underlined the significance of the event at a time when Da Nang, following its recent expansion, now boasts an extensive heritage system comprising two world cultural heritage sites, 567 recognised relics and 19 national treasures.

According to Hanh, the treasures on display are not only legacies of the past but also sources of creative inspiration and symbols of pride and responsibility for present and future generations.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey back in time to explore artefacts from the Dong Son culture, including two treasures from collector Luong Hoang Long, which highlight sophisticated bronze-casting techniques and the rich material and spiritual life of ancient Vietnamese communities from the 3rd to 1st centuries BCE.

Alongside the display, the museum is hosting hands-on cultural activities such as Bau Truc pottery shaping, My Nghiep brocade weaving and woodblock printing on do paper with Cham motifs, offering visitors opportunities to experience traditional crafts and bring home cultural souvenirs.

The event aims to promote the city’s cultural and historical value and reaffirm Da Nang’s role in safeguarding and promoting national heritage./.
