A meeting of members of the Indonesian Government (Photo: en.antaranews.com) Jakarta (VNA) - The government ofIndonesia has revoked more than 2,000 mining, plantation and forest-use permitswhich were deemed to not be in accordance with the originalfunction, Indonesian President JokoWidodo announced on January 6.
According to theIndonesia leader, mining, forestry, and state land use permits will continue tobe evaluated, and those which are not executed and not productive will betransferred to other parties.
Sofar, as many as 2,078 permits of mining companies have been withdrawn because they never submitted a work plan, he said, adding that such practices have led to the use of natural resourcesbeing held up, impeding efforts to improve people's welfare.
The government has also revoked 192 forestrysector permits covering an area of 3,126,439 hectares for inactivity, notmaking a work plan, and neglect, he noted.
Joko said that revamping and controlling thesebusiness permits is an integral part of improving the governance of mining,forestry, and other permits./.
