Indonesian President Joko Widodo reshuffled his cabinet on August 12 by replacing a number of leaders of important ministries in a bid to boost economic recovery, according to Antara news agency.

Accordingly, Darmin Nasution, former Bank Indonesia Governor, was named coordinating economic minister, replacing Sofyan Djalil who was appointed as National Development Planning Minister.

Thomas Trikasih Lembong, a successful businessman, replaced Rahmad Gobel as Trade Minister.

Four other positions were also shifted, including coordinating political, legal and security affairs minister and coordinating maritime affairs minister.

In November 2014, Widodo came into office with commitments to bolster Indonesian economic growth amid a stagnant economy due to declining exports.

However, the Indonesian economy has continued to decrease with growth dropping to 4.67 percent in the second quarter of this year, the lowest growth in six years.

Economic experts held that the Widodo-led administration has failed to launched promising infrastructure projects while many ministers were criticised of inefficient budget spending.-VNA
