Hanoi (VNA) – The international painting exhibition “Colours of Cultures” will take place at Van Mieu (Temple of Literature) in Hanoi from March 16-26 with the participation of about 60 artists from 22 countries and territories.

It is said to be the largest-ever exhibition of its kind in Vietnam.

The event will bring unique collections of paintings from different countries to art lovers, featuring typical cultural features expressed through familiar themes of nature, country, and people.

The exhibition is an initiative of VietnamInAcquarello, a branch of the International Watercolour Museum – the world’s largest community of watercolour painters – based in Italy.

According to the head of VietnamInAcquarello Nguyen Thu Huong, this will be an opportunity for Vietnamese artists to exchange with international artisans and meet with collectors, students, and organisations interested in watercolour painting.

Under the “Colours of Cultures” project, 465 paintings will be placed on display at the Temple of Literature and Nhau Studio at No.364 Doi Can Street, Ba Dinh district from March 16-26.

The exhibition is scheduled to open on March 16 afternoon at the Temple of Literature with the participation of 60 international artists. As many as 200 paintings selected by an art council will be introduced there. The council includes the world's leading watercolour artists such as Liu Yi from China, Stanislaw Zoladz  from Sweden, Michal Suffczynski from Poland, Paul Jackson from the US, Zeze Lai from Hong Kong, Thierry De Marichalar from France, and Didier Brot from France.

Dr. Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Temple of Literature’s Cultural and Scientific Activity Centre, said the exhibition is a meaningful cultural and artistic activity that helps promote community spiritual values and will gradually turn the Temple of Literature into a creative space.

"We always focus on diversifying cultural activities to better serve domestic and international visitors," Kieu said.

On this occasion, 16 international artists will paint at the Temple of Literature on March 16. Through their performance, art lovers can directly follow the process of forming a piece of art, as well as see the influence of cultures on choosing themes and styles of the artists.

Foreign painters will also engage in a Hanoi – Ninh Binh painting tour on March 18-20 to capture the beauty of Vietnamese landscapes, relic sites, and local livelihoods. The event will serve to popularise the country’s image, culture, and tourism internationally.

A special space called Poland’s Corner will be arranged at the relic site, spotlighting paintings by Polish talents. Besides, Polish painters will share their experience and professional techniques with Vietnamese fine art students and artists at a workshop on March 15./.
