Lecturers with at least oneyear of experience from Vietnamese maritime training schools will besent to attend annual English training courses in Japan.
As from this year, four Vietnamese will receive training Japan under the agreement instead of two in previous years.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Naoya Nakamura who is in charge ofthe cooperation programme said a mere two percent of sailors working onJapanese ships are Japanese citizens, while 75 percent are from thePhilippines. He added that the total number of foreign seamen working onJapanese ships is 56,000.
Head of the VietnamMaritime Administration Nguyen Nhat said the demand for skilled maritimeofficers in Vietnam is very high.
The cooperationprogrammes with Japan and other countries in the field is toincrease the quality of the maritime staff.
Statistics show around 2,000 Vietnamese seamen are working on foreignships at present, a significant drop from 6,000 in several years ago,while 25,000 are employed at home.-VNA
