Lam Dong (VNA) – The People’s Committee of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong has ordered local departments and sectors to inspect all tourism activities and services to ensure safety for tourists in the wake of two recent accidents that claimed the lives of a total of four foreign visitors.
On March 1, Vice Chairman of the committee Phan Van Da requested relevant agencies to promptly review security, order and safety at local tourist sites and suspend unsafe services.
Safety signs must be planted, and security and rescue staff must always be ready at necessary locations.
Da also told the provincial departments of transport and public security to examine tourist transportation, the quality of road and waterway vehicles, and fire prevention measures.
Pham S, another Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, asked public security forces, the external relations department and relevant agencies to continue investigating the two accidents. They were also tasked with reviewing the licencing and organisation of adventure tourism.
Meanwhile, local travel companies must tighten tourist management during adventure tours and comply with tour operation regulations, he said.
Three Britons and one Belarusian died while visiting waterfalls on February 26 and 28, respectively.
Pham S said the three British citizens’ bodies were handed over to the UK Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City on March 1. The Belarusian tourist’s remains were sent to HCM City’s forensic science centre. The Lam Dong authorities notified the Belarusian Embassy about the incident and are waiting for a response.-VNA
