Over 60 percent of local accommodation will temporarily close, and around 7,000 people will be laid off or suspended. In order to quickly recover after the COVID-19 epidemic, local authorities in association with the tourism industry have been exerting efforts to lure tourists.

At a recent conference to launch the "Sapa Summer 2020" stimulus package and discuss solutions to support businesses, leaders of Lao Cai’s People's Committee and Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposed recommendations to promptly remove difficulties for travel companies affected by the COVID-19 epidemic.

In a bid to revive tourism growth, Lao Cai has announced a stimulus package themed "Sapa Summer 2020." Under this programme, visitors will enjoy discounts of up to 60 percent off ticket prices, accommodation and services. All participants have committed to maintaining the quality of services.

Lao Cai is expected to attract about 2.5 million visitors in 2020, including 300,000 foreigners./.
