During a working session with keyofficials of the locality on September 20, PM Dung reminded localauthorities to pay special attention to taking advantage of tourismpotential for promoting sustainable development.
In addition, heasked the locality to further foster the mineral exploitation andprocessing industry as well as agro-forestry production, adding that theprovince should take more drastic measures for the implementation ofthe national strategy programme on the building of new-style ruralareas.
With regard to a development plan for the popular touristdestination of Sa Pa, the PM said Lao Cai needs to make careful studyand may invite foreign consultants if necessary so that the plan canoptimise Sa Pa’s potential and advantages while preserving the localcultural characteristics, natural landscape and heritages as well asprotecting the environment.
He also suggested the localauthorities work out appropriate policies to mobilise investmentresources for developing transport infrastructure, and those for tourismand service development.
According to Chairman of theprovincial People’s Committee Doan Van Huong, Lao Cai’s socio-economicdevelopment saw positive changes in the first nine month of this year,with an economic growth estimated at 13.7 percent. The number oftourists to Lao Cai increased 33 percent from the same period last year.
The report on the future plan for Sa Pa said the town will bedeveloped into a tourism urban area covering around 363 ha andcomprising urban residential areas, tourism sites, several agriculturezones and the Hoang Lien National Park.
