The country's foreign exchange ordinance will be revised in order to reduce the use of foreign currency in Vietnam, legislators decided during the 8th session of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Dec 13.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung asked the State Bank to work with the NA's Economic Committee to improve the ordinance before submitting a final draft to the NA in May.

The committee also discussed budget allocations for two national target programmes on climate change adaptation and environmental pollution.

According to the Government's plans, the State budget will allocate 248.3 billion VND (411.8 million USD) to the climate change programme and 131 billion VND (6.24 million USD) to the pollution programme.

Many deputies agreed that in funding pilot projects, the Government should focus on the twin goals of raising environmental awareness and preventing pollution.

The committee asked the Government to review the proposed projects and to allocate capital for both urgent projects approved by the Prime Minister and pilot models that could expand beyond one community if successful.-VNA
