A National Assembly delegation led by NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong is paying a two-day visit to the northern mountainous province of Bac Kan to explore socio-economic situations of the region.

This is part of tour of northern mountainous provinces by the NA Subcommittee of Political Planning and Reports for the 11th National Party Congress. The tour will gather updates on current developments of the area and use them as materials to build up political documents for the upcoming congress.

At a working session on Dec. 29 with leaders of Bac Kan province, NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and his entourage were informed of the socio-economic situation and party building work over the last 20 years.

The delegation was also briefed on the implementation of the 10th Party congress resolution and of Political Bureau’s Directive No. 37-CT/TW on Issues Concerning Women Cadres under the New Circumstances.

Addressing the session, Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong said a thorough review of advantages and disadvantages as well as opportunities and challenges will help identify a proper course for development in the future.

Trong asked the provincial authorities to review production methods to best use local advantages in terms of forest and forest land and to successfully carry out the economic restructuring process.

The party’s central Committee always pays close attention to improving the living standards for people from ethnic groups and will do so by specific policies and incentives, said Trong. He also expressed his wish that Bac Kan authorities would soon put forth appropriate recommendations, helping the committee to complete the political documents for submission to the 11th party congress.

In the 2006-2010 period, Bac Kan gained an annual average growth rate of over 11 percent and halved the poverty rate to 25.8 percent. Due attention was paid to building up the party organisation and political system with approximately more than 1,000 new members admitted to the party every year.

During his stay in Bac Kan, Chairman Trong and his entourage visited families of ethnic minorities in Bang Phuc commune, Cho Don district to see how local people combined agricultural production with tapping forest resources and afforestation.

They also visited the Bac Kan cement factory and the Thanh Binh industrial zone./.
