Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian police have dismantled a major international drug trafficking syndicate and seized more than three tonnes of narcotics with an estimated value exceeding 44 million USD.
Inspector-General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail said, in a series of coordinated operations, authorities seized six containers at ports in Sabah and Selangor and arrested eight suspects. In total, police confiscated 3,043.5kg of methamphetamine, 102.5kg of ketamine, 90kg of ecstasy pills, 4kg of vape liquid suspected to contain cocaine, and 2.6kg of Erimin 5 pills.
Preliminary investigations indicate the syndicate had been operating for several years, using sea routes across the East Sea as its main transport channel. The drugs were allegedly stored in containers at logistics facilities before being distributed to international markets.
Khalid warned that if the seized narcotics had entered the market, they could have affected up to 16 million people. He described drug trafficking as a serious threat to national security and social stability, stressing that Malaysian police would not compromise with any party involved in such criminal activities.
If convicted, the suspects face the death penalty or life imprisonment./.
