Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia plans to introduce a new Cybercrime Bill to address increasingly complex digital threats, including the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfake technology, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced.
The plan was revealed at a meeting of the National Cyber Security Committee chaired by PM Anwar on February 12. The proposed bill aims to establish a comprehensive policy framework to prevent the spread of sensitive images and introduce regulations on computer data retention to support investigations.
PM Anwar stressed that amid a volatile geopolitical environment, strengthening the national cybersecurity agenda through strategic cooperation is essential to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and stability.
In addition to the new bill, the Malaysian Government is accelerating the establishment of the Cryptography and Cyber Security Development Centre (CSCDC). The new body will consolidate the functions and resources of the Malaysia Cryptographic Management and Technology Centre (PTPKM) and CyberSecurity Malaysia.
Administratively, the CSCDC will operate under the Prime Minister’s Office and be directly supervised by the National Cyber Security Agency and the National Security Council. The centre is expected to serve as the government’s key technical and operational arm in the field of cybersecurity./.
